Here are some important tips for patients who wear contact lenses:

DO:

  • Regular eye exams with your optometrist
  • Use only lenses that are recommended by your eye doctor
  • Always wash your hands well before handling your lenses
  • Clean your lens storage case at least once a week
  • Rinse and store your lenses with the doctor recommended solutions before and after each use
  • Insert the same lens first every time, as to avoid confusion
  • Throw out any expired lenses or solutions
  • Have a backup pair of prescription glasses
  • Wear sunglasses with UV protection when going outside during the day
  • If you are experiencing redness, soreness, or blurry vision, remove your contacts

DO NOT:

  • Do not sleep while wearing your contacts
  • Do not wear lenses that are chipped or torn
  • Do not wear your lenses in a swimming pool or hot tub
  • Do not use tap water to rinse your lenses
  • Do not put your lenses in your mouth or wet them with saliva
  • Do not rub your eyes while wearing lenses
  • Do not wear lenses if you are sick or ill
  • Do not wear lenses if your eyes are swollen or irritated from eye allergies or other irritants.
